For several years, NYSBA has been working to secure a jobs tax credit for local stations. The goal of the program is to help preserve a station’s ability to provide local news and public affairs.
The NY Empire State Development has just opened its web portal that will allow stations to apply for the media jobs tax credit. The program is in effect annually and expires on December 31, 2027.
The tax credit for broadcasters applies only to those stations whose companies are not “publicly traded.” Moreover, a company that owns multiple stations in different markets may obtain a tax credit for one station in each separate market.
This was a significant victory for NYSBA. The program is open to both broadcasters and newspapers.
You can access the Empire State Development’s Media Jobs Tax Credit portal here.
