The Media Institute, America’s leading organization promoting free speech, will host its annual “Free-Speech America Gala” on October 27th in Washington DC. The Media Institute has been an important supporter of broadcasters’ First Amendment rights. The organization is headed by Buffalo area native and former FCC Commissioner Mike O’Reilly.
This year the Media Institute will present its American Horizon Award to Jack Abernathy, CEO of the Fox Television Stations since 2004. He oversees Fox Corporation’s 28 owned stations in some of the nation’s largest television markets.
The Freedom of Speech Award will be presented to Jan Neuharth, CEO of the Freedom Forum. The Freedom Forum is a nonprofit, nonpartisan foundation dedicated to fostering First Amendment freedom for all. She practiced law in Los Angeles and worked for Senate Minority Leader Howard Baker.
The featured speaker for the night will be Pat Butler, former CEO of America’s Public Television stations. A long-time media executive, he works for the Washing Post company, Newsweek, Times Mirror, and the Pew Research Center.
