House Vote on the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act (H.R 979) Today!

As we reported last week, the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act (H.R. 979) is scheduled to be brought to the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives for a vote this week.  It is our understanding that the vote will take place today, Tuesday, September 15th.  While schedules often change, the vote is scheduled to take place around 5 PM. Debate on the bill is likely to be held in the afternoon.

We expect House leadership will place H.R. 979 on the “suspension” calendar.  This process limits the time for debate and prevents amendments from the floor.  However, it will require support from two-thirds of the members voting (around 290), not just a simple majority.  With 317 bipartisan cosponsors, we should have enough to pass the bill.

During the past week, NYBA has sent letters out to all NYSBA stations, asking them to email the letter to their local member of Congress.  We want to thank the stations for their efforts.  In addition, NYSBA contacted every member of the New York Congressional Delegation and urged them to vote for H.R. 979.  Twenty-two members of the New York Delegation have signed on as co-sponsors, and two additional members voted for the bill as it moved through the Commerce Committee.

We will keep you posted on this important vote. Thank you for all your help moving this bill through the House.
