FCC Continues NY Illegal Pirate Radio Enforcement

Updated: Apr 14

The FCC’s Enforcement Bureau continues its efforts to eliminate illegal pirate radio operations in New York.  Importantly, the PIRATE Act gives the FCC the authority to fine property owners that allow illegal radio stations to operate on their land or buildings.  Recent actions notifying property owners were sent to:

The New York Office of the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Enforcement Bureau is investigating a complaint about an unlicensed FM broadcast station operating on frequency 89.3 MHz.  On September 29, 2025, agents from the New York Office confirmed by direction finding techniques that radio signals on frequency 89.3 MHz were emanating from the property at 612 West 189th Street, New York, New York 10040 (Property).

These notices informed the property owners that they could face up to $2,453,218 in fines if the illegal radio stations continue to operate on their property.  Also, the Enforcement Bureau’s Notices require the property owners to identify the illegal pirate radio operators.  We applaud the Enforcement Bureau’s continued efforts to eliminate illegal pirate radio operations in NY.
