Last December, the FCC adopted new TV Translator call sign rules. Under the new rules:
“TV translator station call signs “be made up of a prefix consisting of the initial letter K or W followed by the channel number assigned to the station and two additional letters and a suffix consisting of the letter – D.”
At the time, the FCC noted it would automatically change the call signs of any translator in its database that was non-compliant. It made such automatic changes in its public notice. The changes involve a few TV translator stations in New York.
The FCC reminded stations that the new updated call signs must be transmitted as part of the stations on-air identification.
You can access the FCC’s Public Notice and a list of translator stations receiving automatic call sign changes here.
