Broadcast Station Totals: Commercial Radio Declines/Non-Commercials Increase

The FCC’s Media Bureau has released its annual data regarding the number of broadcast stations. In all, there are 33,551 broadcast facilities operating in the United States. The breakdown is as follows:

Compared to last year, there are 57 fewer AM stations and 24 fewer commercial FM stations, but 353 more non-commercial FM stations. There were also 11 more commercial UHF TV stations, but 6 fewer commercial VHF TV stations. There was 1 more noncommercial UHF TV station and 4 more noncommercial VHF TV stations.
