For years, BASH had worked with school systems throughout Long Island to develop broadcast programs in high school. BASH helps to get programs started or enhanced with networking, resources, and eventually seed money for equipment and even partial staffing costs. BASH seeks to engage students in the importance of digital citizenship and media awareness, giving them the opportunity to experience communication tools that they will encounter in their personal, civic, community, and eventually in their professional lives.
BASH is expanding its broadcasting/media awards to high schools in Westchester County. The awards event will be held on May 20, 2026, at the Jacob Burns Film Center, 364 Manville Rd, Pleasantville, NY. The event will be broadcast live on WKZE radio.
BASH is looking for judges with broadcast experience for the Westchester event. The judging will be done online. Each judge will be asked to evaluate entries in one of twelve categories. The categories are listed here.
Judges will receive the videos sometime in April and are given about a month to complete the judging. They are asked to provide brief feedback for all submissions using a scoring rubric like this.
Many stations are expanding employment and intern opportunities to high school students. This is a perfect way to evaluate new talent that can help you station.
