According to a recent analysis by BIA, local content remains the key to television advertising. The focus on local content will be increasingly important as the 2026 marketplace becomes increasingly defined by fragmentation and new competition across CTV, OTA and social platforms.
BIA looked at the advertising potential for local TV stations during 2026. It found that:
Excluding political advertising OTA revenue increases (+.6%) in 2026 and Cable TV decreases 3%
With political, total local video reaches $2.18 billion, a $146.7 million live over the baseline that excludes political.
According to BIA, viewing habits are changing as viewers now “move seamlessly between TV, streaming apps and social media platforms on a single device.”
