Founded in 2017, The Broadcast Alliance for High Schools (BASH) now has a network of more than 50 high schools and 1000 students. BASH gives stations a tremendous opportunity to connect with the next generation of broadcasters. It is a terrific resource for obtaining skilled high school aged interns. This year BASH will be hosting two events:
Westchester, Wednesday, May 20th at the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, NY. The event runs from 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM.
Board of Regents member Dr. Frances G Wills will welcome the students at The Burns Center.
“This type of engagement in broadcast media and journalism is an authentic experience that focuses on students’ interests in the Arts; Career and Technical Education (CTE); as well as how they can learn to utilize media technology in a civic-minded way,” stated Regent Wills.
“We are delighted to expand opportunities for our talented students from across the County to promote media arts as a way to enhance communication skills and use their creative talents collaboratively, " said Kate Mathews, who has helped organize BASH Awards events for the past three years and serves on the Board and Steering Committee of BASH.
Long Island, Thursday May 21st at Hofstra University (Breslin Hall, The Adams Playhouse and The Lawrence Herbert School of Communications), which is the site for Long Island and New York City schools. This is the largest student broadcast gathering in the tri-state metropolitan area.
Board of Regents member, Felicia Thomas Williams, will address the high school broadcast journalism and film students with an important message, as they pursue a career in media and communications. “The skills and dispositions that students learn in broadcast media programs will serve them well in any future endeavor,” stated Regent Thomas-Williams.
Both events are at capacity. If you are looking for qualified interns this is the place to be. It also makes a good story for your local news. In addition, BASH is still seeking stations to help sponsor the event.
