After years of work, the U.S. House of Representatives just passed the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act (HR 979). The legislation instructs the Department of Transportation to require automakers to include an AM receiver in the dashboards of passenger vehicles. The legislation is intended to block the auto industry’s attempts to remove AM receivers from vehicles.
The bill passed on a voice vote with no opposition. The bipartisan legislation had strong support in New York with l 22 members of the New York delegation co-sponsoring the bill and an additional two members voting for the bill when it moved through the Commerce Committee.
NYSBA thanks the members of Congress who supported this important legislation. Also, we are especially grateful to all the broadcasters in New York state who worked tirelessly to help get this bill passed.

The New York State Broadcasters Association joined with fellow state associations and NAB to present a cybersecurity webinar. The new rules require stations to take specific steps to shield EAS equipment and networks from cyberattacks, including 15-character passwords, firewalls, network segmentation, and prompt installation of security patches and updates.
