Description: Reporting to the Controller, the Deputy Controller, Accounting Operations will directly oversee the Payroll, Accounts Payable and Cash Management operations for WNET. The Deputy Controller, Accounting Operations provides all of the transactional support required to ensure that Accounting Operations are in step with internal policies and procedures as well as any government administered regulations.

Specific responsibilities include:
• Improve the operational systems, processes and policies in support of best business practices in the area of Payroll, Accounts Payable and Cash Management Operations -- specifically, support better management reporting, information flow and management, business process and organizational planning.
• Manage and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of Support Services (HR, IT and Finance), through improvements to each function as well as coordination and communication between support and business functions.
• Play a significant role in long-term planning, including an initiative geared toward operational excellence.
• Review and update accounting policies and procedures to ensure proper internal controls.
• Assist in the coordination and management of the monthly, quarterly and year end financial close process, variance and flux analysis, coordination with the external auditors and other outside entities.

To qualify, candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent work experience along with a minimum of 8 years of demonstrated, solid accounting and financial management experience; previous experience in a non-profit setting preferred. Candidates must have strong advanced technical experience in the use of financial software to develop and maintain automated financial systems.

Additional qualifications include:
• In-depth knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Thorough knowledge of business and accounting practices.
• Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to identify technical and non-technical problems and evaluate alternative solutions.
• Demonstrated management skills with the ability to manage results against audit and control procedures.
• Demonstrated project management and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise a high level of independent judgment and decision making.
• Demonstrated leadership skills to effectively direct and motivate a multi-level diverse staff.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels in the Company, governmental agencies, auditors and other external contacts.
